稲を刈ってきました！

記念すべき第一回目の記事のトピックは稲刈りです！

食欲の秋！

ということで、新米を手刈りしてきました〜

キャンパスターミナルのお知らせに、地域交流の一環として参加募集が出ていたので、地域の方と交流したい！体を動かしたい！と思った私たちは参加することを決め、棚田で有名な内成（うちなり）へ向かいました

Our first topic is about rice harvesting!

We  found the announcement about this event on campus terminal and we thought it would be a good opportunity to get to know about local people and society in Beppu. 

山道を上ったり下ったりしながら別府駅からバスで30分。日差しはあったものの冷たい風が強く吹き付ける中、内成の方があたたかく出迎えてくれました。

It took about 30 minutes to get to Uchinari from Beppu station. People in Uchinari warmly welcomed us even it was quite windy and cold outside.

実際に刈り取る時間は約40分、その後刈り取った稲をコンバインにかけて脱穀します

刈り取る時は鎌を片手にしゃがんで作業をしていきます (翌朝は凄まじい筋肉痛に苦しみました）

The actual time of harvesting was about 40 minutes, and after that rice was automatically shelled through the machine.

We had to bend down while we cut the rice (which caused horrible muscle pain next morning!)

みんなで刈り取った稲は全部で、なんとおよそ250キロにもなるそうです！

全部ではありませんが、全員で協力してコンバインに稲を運んでいきます

The whole amount of rice we harvested was 250 kg!

全ての稲を刈り終わった後、APU二回生のインドネシア出身の学生、Divaさんと、石垣から来られたというご家族にお話を聞きました。

After we finished cutting all of the rice, we interviewed Diva, Indonesian student from APU　and family from Ishigaki, Beppu.

Beppaper（以下、B）今回の体験会に参加しようと思ったきっかけは？

B; Will you tell me why you decided to participate this event?

Diva(以下、D)新しい経験をしてみたかったからです。

D; I decided to join this because I wanted to do something new and I'm interested in this kind of event.

B；特に難しかったところはありますか？

B; What was the hardest part of rice harvesting?

D；稲を刈り取る時には忍耐力が必要だったのでちょっと大変だったかな。

D; It needed lot of patience to cut rice, that was quite tough, I guess.

B；実際に参加してみてどうでしたか？

B; How was it?

D; 最初は稲を刈るのが難しかったけど、楽しかったです！初めてだったから、最初はどうやって刈り取るかがわからなかった。でも一度コツを掴むと簡単にできるようになりました。もしまたこういう体験会があればぜひ参加したいと思います。

D;  It was hard for me to cut the rice at first, but it was fun! Since it was my first time, so I didn't know how to cut them. But once I get used to it, it became much easier. I would like to participate again if there are any events like this.

ご家族で来ていた方にも、体験してみての感想を聞きました！

We asked to family about how was the event!

B：どのようにしてこの企画をしりましたか？ 

B; How did you know this event?

F：もともとはホームページを見て知り、今回の企画に関しては以前田植えに来たため、自分たちで植えた稲を借りに来ました！ 

F；This is the second time to come and we saw this event on the homepage. the first time, we came here to do rice planting so today we reaped rice which we planted last time.

B：実際に稲を刈ってみて、どうでしたか？ 

B；How was the rice harvesting?

F： 初めは難しかったけれど、子供でもどんどんコツを掴んで来て、楽しくできました at first F；it was difficult for our kid but he got the hang of harvesting so it was fun.

B：内成にはよく来ますか？ 

B; Do you often come to Uchinari?

F：滅多に来ません！別府に住んでいても来ることがないため、このような機会に来ることができて、良かったです

F; We live in Beppu but we hardly visit here! If there isn’t any event like this,  we wouldn't have a chance to visit so it is very nice to join event like this.

そして最後に、内成で[棚田とむらづくり]を考える会の責任者をしている後藤さんにお話を聞きました！

Finally, we interviewed Mr. Goto, the representative of Uchinari.

Beppaper(B)：なぜ、この活動を始めましたか？

B; Why did you start this event?

後藤さん(以下、後)：LSB研究会が地域とのこのような企画を始めたことから、約10年間、偶数月に行なっています。

G; Since LSB study group started this kind of events with us, local society, so we have been continuing to have events for almost 10 years, each even-numbered month.

B：どのような目的で行っていますか？

B; What is the purpose of events?

後：学生や地域の人など、外部の人に内成の良さ、魅力を感じてもらって、最終的には内成の棚田の風景を守りたいということです。棚田の維持は大変なため、住人以外の人の力が必要です。

G; We hold all of the events because we want young people, local people or people from outside to find that Uchinari is a beautiful place. Also, our final purpose is to protect traditional scenery of Uchinari and it needs support from not only local people but also people from outside too.

お昼ご飯も作ってもらい、みんなで美味しく食べながらLSB研究会を担当しているカゼム先生からもお話を聞くことができました。（詳しくは次の記事に書くので、お楽しみに！）

新しく出会った人たちと、とても充実した時間を過ごすことができました

They made lunch for all of the participants and we enjoyed eating. While eating, we could listen the story about the importance of the connection between young people and local society from professor Vafadari, who is in charge of LSB study group. （We are going to write about it in next article so don't miss it please!）

We really enjoyed spending time with new people.
