春休み個人記事・一人目！みずきの温泉での出会い

春休みのBeppaperではメンバーそれぞれが好きなことを個人記事として書いていくのだけど、今回私は別府に来たからこそできた温泉での体験のことを書いていきます。

Hi! This is mizuki.

During the spring break, we will share the individual article and, in my turn, I will share the experience that I could do because I came in beppu.

まず、私は今2回生で、次のセメスターから3回生になります。そして去年の２月から下界で一人暮らしをしてて、もうすぐ一年が経ちます。

家の近くには買い物できるところもあるし、駅も歩いて行けるし、私は自転車に乗ったり歩いたりするのも好きだから、嫌だなーと思うこともなく楽しく生活してます。

Firstly, I am now the 2nd year student and from next semester I will be the 3rd year student. Since last year’s February, I am living in downtown alone and it passed almost a year.

There are some shops near my apartment and I can walk to the nearest station and I also like to walk and ride bicycle, so I feel good for life in beppu.

温泉の入り口の私のお気に入りスポット　影が綺麗なんだー

家の近くにある温泉には、引っ越してきた時からたまにいくようになったんだけど、秋のセメスターでは寒いからいける日は毎日のように行ってました。

それで、温泉のおじちゃんと顔見知りになったの。

基本的に夜に行くことが多くて、最初の方は「こんばんは」と「さよなら」だったのが、「おやすみなさい」もいうようになりました。

わたし的に「おやすみなさい」を言うのって結構嬉しくて。なんだかその人の一日に関わった気分になる。

伝わるといいな、、　とにかく、「おやすみなさい」を初めて言った日は嬉しくて、もっと仲良くなりたいと思いました。

それでその次の日くらいに初めて自己紹介して、名前教えてもらったの。

I use the nearest hot springs since I moved into my apartment, I go there more often like every day during fall semester because of very cold weather.

Then, I have got to know the caretaker of hot springs.

Usually, I go there in the night and I say only “good evening” and “good bye” but gradually I also say “good night” for him.

In my perspective, saying “good night” is little bit different from saying “good bye”. It seems like I can take part in his day.

I hope it translate well from Japanese to English… anyways, I was so happy when he used that word for me and I wanted to talk more than before.

Therefore, I introduced myself to him and I have got to know his name around next day.

温泉のおじちゃん　the caretaker of the hot spring

そして休みの日にいつも行く温泉は３時にあくので、それに合わせてお風呂に入ってきました。それも、３時にきたら私のちょうどいい温度にしてあげるって言われたから、贅沢！と思って楽しみにして行ったの。しかも、そこはお昼の間に全部掃除して新しいお湯を入れるから、一番綺麗なときなんだって。気持ちよかった〜

お風呂から出て、買ってくれたジュースを飲みながらおしゃべりしてたんだけど、なんでこの仕事をしてるのかとか、どんなスケジュールでいつも過ごしてるのかとか、知らないことだらけで気になったので聞いてみました。

He said that if I go there at the opening time, he can manage comfortable temperature for me, so on my day off, I went to hot spring around 3 pm because it is kind of special. Also, at that time, the water is really clean so it was really good!

After taking bath, I have so many curiosities about his job, for example schedule and what he is doing, so I asked a lot with drinking juice which he gave me.

6:30 きて朝の準備をする came to hot spring and prepare for morning open.

7:00〜9:00 温泉が開いてる時間は外に座ってる sitting front of building.

9:00〜　お湯を抜いて掃除して、お湯をためる。家に一回帰るけど、たまにお湯を確認しにいく clean up the bath and start putting hot spring. After that, go back to home but sometimes come to check the water.

15:00〜22:00 温泉が開いてる時間外にいて、夕方ちょっとご飯食べに家に戻る go back to home for eating dinner but otherwise sitting outside.

一日中家と温泉を行ったり来たりしてるんだって。すごいよね。

休みの日は月曜の定休日だけでたまに競輪に行ったりもするらしいけど、その日も掃除をしたり、温泉のことを気にかけてるんだって。

おじちゃんはこの仕事を始めて４ヶ月くらいでまだ新米って言ってたけど、毎日温泉に来てお湯と向き合ってるからなのか、私からはもうすごいベテランな人に見えます。

この仕事の前は、大型トラックの運転手をしていたんだって。運転中は1人だけど、いろんなところに行って、同業の人たちとお酒飲むのも楽しかったんだって話してくれました。

その話をしながら、私は温泉の外でいろんな話を聞いてるのが面白いし嬉しくて、別府に来てよかったーと思ったよ。

この仕事を始めたのも人の縁だって言ってて、私もこの話を聞けてるのは縁だな！と思いました。人との繋がりって大事だなと思ったよ。

As we saw, he spends most of day for managing hot spring. That was surprising for me.

On day off, sometime he goes to see road race but he has to manage for next day too.

Although he is doing this job for 4 months and he said he only has little experience, I thought he seems like experienced person. I think that because he did it almost every single day.

Before getting this job, he used to do the heavy truck driver for a long time. While he driving, he is alone but there are so many people doing the same job so he enjoyed talking and dirking with them.

While I listened his talk, I was really enjoyed the situation that I am listening new things and about job in front of hot spring. This situation happened because I came to beppu.

He also said that he got current job because of human connection and I also thought the connection made that situation too! So, I really thought that the connection between people is important.

ちなみに、みんな温泉の出し方って知ってる？

わたしは何も知らなくて、いつも見てるはずだけど説明してもらって初めて知りました。

Anyways, do you know how to take the hot water?

I knew now thanks to his explanation but I did not know before that.

地下から出すお湯と、お水との量をうまく調節して、入りやすい温度にしてるんだって！基本的には43度くらいにするらしいけど、別府の温泉ってもっと熱く感じるよね

Mixing with hot water from underground and cold water and making comfortable temperature. Usually it is about 43℃ but I feel Beppu’ hot spring is hotter than 43℃.

知らないことたくさんだけど、どんどん知れていく感覚が嬉しいし、シャンプーとかを持って温泉に行って、おばちゃんたちと一緒にお風呂に入ってると、暮らしているんだなという実感が湧いてきます。

温泉以外にも好きな場所とかお気に入りの過ごし方とかできてきて、3回生になるのもちょっと楽しみになってきました。

どんどん別府の魅力がわかってきた気がする。

I still have to many unknown things about beppu but it is happy to have knowledge gradually and I can feel that I am living in beppu when I go to hot spring with my own shampoo and talk with people who comes there.

I am finding attraction point of beppu little by little!
